Repeat Prescriptions

To request a repeat prescription do one of the following:

  • Online via the NHS App - Patients can register without visiting the Practice and existing SystmOnline users can use the same log-in details.
  • Online via the Airmid App
  • Online with SystmOnline via the link at the top of this page - You will need to register in person at the surgery to use our on-line service SystmOnline. Please bring current photo ID and a personal email address to any of our receptionists to receive your secure log-in.
  • Keep the white counterfoil from the previous prescription, tick the medication you require and drop the slip into the blue box or letterbox at your surgery
  • Fill in one of the request forms provided at reception giving full details of the name, strength and dosage
  • Post your request to us. If you require the paper prescription to be posted back to you, please enclose a stamped SAE
  • Order through your nominated pharmacy if they offer this service

Please note prescription requests by telephone are not permitted at either Penryn Surgery, Mawnan Smith Surgery or Stithians Surgery.

Please allow 2 working days for your paper prescription to be ready if you do not use the electronic prescription service and 5 days to collect your medication from the dispensary or home/post office delivery.

Patients should check with their own pharmacy how long their medication will take to dispense.

Forgotten to Order Your Medication?

We are unable to process prescription requests urgently unless the following applies:

Priority will only be given to medication which you need within 24 hours to prevent you becoming severely unwell. Emergency medication includes: diabetic medications, inhalers, angina sprays, anaphylaxis pens and epilepsy medication.

Most medications can safely be missed for a few days and you may be advised that your prescription will be issued routinely.

We will not issue urgent prescriptions for items that can be purchased at a pharmacy.

If the doctor feels your medication cannot be missed, the item will be issued and will be available for collection from 17:30 at Penryn Surgery.

Prescription Enquiries

If you order online and are unable to put a tick next to any particular medication and it states, "Needs reviewing by a GP or nurse', then please scroll to the bottom of the order page and make a custom request. Type the name and strength in the empty text box and submit your order. The doctor will then assess your request. You may not need a face to face review this time so DO NOT book an appointment unless you are asked to make one.

Patients having problems with online ordering or who have a query about medication ordering may ring the prescription line on 01326 372502 Option 2. This number is for prescription queries only.

Patients who would like to check when their prescription will be ready should check with their nominated pharmacy.

Please note that third-party written consent is needed if you wish to discuss someone else's prescription. Please ask reception if you wish to set up consent for a relative or carer.

When ordering your prescriptions online please be aware that your medication will be ready for collection at the pharmacy, dispensary or delivery point you have arranged with the practice in advance. If you wish to change this please change the nomiated pharmacy online or contact the Prescription Desk before placing your order.

Dispensary Services

Penryn Surgery is a Dispensing Doctor’s practice. This means we are able to provide prescribed medications to our dispensing patients at Penryn, Stithians and Mawnan surgeries.

Dispensing facilities are available for most patients who live more than ONE mile (1.6km) from a chemist. You will be advised of your eligibility when you register as a patient or if you change address.

Dispensaries can only supply medication from a prescription; we cannot provide over the counter medicines or items.

If you have any problems, queries or difficulties, a dispenser will be available to offer advice or assistance. Please contact the Dispensary through the usual surgery number.

Prescription Delivery Service

If you live more than one mile from a pharmacy, you can apply to have your medicines delivered to:

  • Mabe Post Office
  • Perranwell Post Office
  • Ponsanooth Post Office
  • Rame Post Office
  • Mylor Stores
  • Budock Water Village Stores
  • Stithians Spar Shop
  • Mawnan Smith Post office & Stores

Our driver delivers to these sites once a day, Monday to Friday, (not including Bank Holidays).

Patients who use this service can also leave their repeat prescription requests at the stores.

In addition, a HOME delivery service is available for patients who fulfil our criteria and are housebound. Further information is available from the dispensary

If you are interested in our medication delivery service, please ask at the dispensary at either Penryn, Mawnan Smith or Stithians for an application and consent form. Certain medications are unsuitable for delivery and must be collected from our dispensary- you will advised if this applies.

If you pay for your prescriptions or are exempt for paying, we will need payment or evidence of your exemption in advance of delivery.

Common Enquiries

How long will my prescription be for?

The default prescription duration is usually 1 month for most items. Durations of shorter than 1 month may be agreed between the GP and patient in certain circumstances, mainly due to clinical need or risk.

Some limited specific items are issued for longer durations, examples include contraceptives and some HRT which are issued for 3 months at a time.

We do not routinely issue prescriptions for durations longer than 1 month, in line with NHS guidance. However if you are due to travel abroad we can issue supplies up to a maximum of 3 months, but not longer. Speak to prescription desk if this is the case.
