Non-urgent advice: Prescription Enquiries

If you order online and are unable to put a tick next to any particular medication and it states, "Needs reviewing by a GP or nurse', then please:

  • Scroll to the bottom of the order page and make a custom request.
  • Type the name and strength in the empty text box and submit your order.
  • The doctor will then assess your request. You may not need a face to face review this time so DO NOT book an appointment unless you are asked to make one.

Common Enquiries

Non-urgent advice: How long will my prescription be for?

The default prescription duration is usually 1 month for most items, in line with NHS guidance.

Durations of shorter than 1 month may be agreed between the GP and patient in certain circumstances, mainly due to clinical need or risk.

Some limited specific items are issued for longer durations, examples include contraceptives which are issued for 3 months at a time.

If you are due to travel abroad we can issue supplies up to a maximum of 3 months, but not longer. Speak to prescription desk if this is the case.

Non-urgent advice: Shared Care

There are circumstances when 'shared care' between a consultant and GP for specialist medications are required. This requires the agreement of the GP, the Consultant and the patient to be valid.

Commonly this is required for conditions like Rheumatoid Arthritis, ADHD, Gender Dysphoria amongst other conditions.

Non-urgent advice: Sedation for Flying, Dental Appointments and Scans

In general we DO NOT prescribe sedation for flying or dental procedures. There are cirumstances however where sedation for scans it may be required. Read more here.
